One of the questions today in Anja’s homework was about opposites. The first time she answered, she wrote “up” for both answers. I had her read the question again after telling her she did it incorrectly. She erased up for both and wrote big for both.

I was getting a little frustrated because this is Typical Anja - just writing down whatever without thinking about what she’s doing. So I told her to read it again. She said, “Ohhhhh! I get it! Okay, now I’ll do it right!” I was very happy that she finally took the time to read the whole question and THEN answer it instead of just writing down whatever came into her head first.

So after careful thought, she erased her answers and re-wrote them with her new answer and triumphantly handed her assignment back to me to review. I looked at it, baffled, and then I started laughing so hard I cried. Click here to see Anja’s very carefully thought out answers.

I’m thinking I’ll have to send the paper back to class as it is with a note so her teacher can get a chuckle out of it, too.

Tonight while Isak was in his piano lesson, Anja was out charming all the middleschoolers with her bug-hunting skills. When we came out, she had her newest find in her hand…meet Smiley, the preying mantis:

Dad, I think you’re going to have to give up the idea of the nice and tidy short haircut…Isak keeps getting asked by all the older girls if he’s going to grow out his hair again.
