I always said she would be a handful; I didn’t realize it would be so soon.

I remember when Anja was just a wee little baby, a mere one week old, I could tell immediately how very different she was than Isak.  In fact, on a messageboard I was on, they had a fun little post that said, “What do you predict your baby will be like in a year?” and I said something along the lines of “Mischievous.”

Mischievous was a grievous understatement.

She has always done things that make us scratch our heads and wonder where she gets these tendencies, as I was never really a troublemaker (my brother took care of that for all 3 of us kids) and B had a temper but not really a mischief maker.

Last night I got an email from B telling me there had been a problem at home, it didn’t sound terribly serious but I really wanted to know what had happened.  I found out today that last night at about 7:30pm, B sent the kids home that were playing at our house so Isak and Anja could get ready for bed.  He told the kids to get ready, which they seemingly obliged to.  Anja went to her room and closed the door, presumably to change into pajamas.  However, words like “seemingly” and “presumably”, when given in the context of my daughter, are generally accepted that whatever it was that we were presuming went right out the window.

Much like Anja.

Yes, folks, my 5 year old daughter ran away last night.  And not like the typical 5 year old runaway stories I’ve heard, where the little angel decides she’s had enough and packs a backpack with a granola bar and her favorite stuffed animal, loudly proclaiming she’s running away and going out the front door and marching down the driveway; no, Anja went all out.  She locked the door behind her when she told B she was changing and then opened the window, opened the screen, and made a break for it.

In case I haven’t mentioned it already?  SHE IS FIVE (5) YEARS OLD.  I dread what will happen in another 10.

Wow. I dont know if I was that young when I first attempted a runaway, but I do know one thing….the few times I made a break for it were because I was too scared to face the music for something that I did that wasn’t noticed yet. Standby, there maybe more to come….

Now you know one of the reasons Dan doesn’t want kids…

You never said how B caught her, or what her explanation was, or your plan to prevent this from happening again, or the look on her face, or if Isak was in on the plan.
Once whan Dan ran away, he slept in the park and came face-to-face with a raccoon in the middle of the night. It may have temporarily straightened him out (scared the crap out of him), but he was 15, not 5!
That’ll teach you to tell her to stop playing with her friends when she’s involved in something. (”Shhhhh…that’s only my Papi telling me it’s bedtime. NO PROBLEM…I’ll be right back”!)

Well, I knocked on the door for awhile and no response. Then I pried up the door and found out why nobody was answering.
I don´t think Isak was in on this one, Anja is fully capable of this by her self and then some. She just didn’t want to listen to the old fart.

you aint seen nothing yet–in eight years she will be a teenager–i think she is a born leader like some others in this clan–she needs mommy to talk to and be with and some good old TLC–dont we all–ggfa

It didn’t take long to find her, she hadn’t gone far.
The only thing is, Anja’s left earlobe is streched out to the size of Kentucky;)
