I always said she would be a handful; I didn’t realize it would be so soon.

I remember when Anja was just a wee little baby, a mere one week old, I could tell immediately how very different she was than Isak.  In fact, on a messageboard I was on, they had a fun little post that said, “What do you predict your baby will be like in a year?” and I said something along the lines of “Mischievous.”

Mischievous was a grievous understatement.

She has always done things that make us scratch our heads and wonder where she gets these tendencies, as I was never really a troublemaker (my brother took care of that for all 3 of us kids) and B had a temper but not really a mischief maker.

Last night I got an email from B telling me there had been a problem at home, it didn’t sound terribly serious but I really wanted to know what had happened.  I found out today that last night at about 7:30pm, B sent the kids home that were playing at our house so Isak and Anja could get ready for bed.  He told the kids to get ready, which they seemingly obliged to.  Anja went to her room and closed the door, presumably to change into pajamas.  However, words like “seemingly” and “presumably”, when given in the context of my daughter, are generally accepted that whatever it was that we were presuming went right out the window.

Much like Anja.

Yes, folks, my 5 year old daughter ran away last night.  And not like the typical 5 year old runaway stories I’ve heard, where the little angel decides she’s had enough and packs a backpack with a granola bar and her favorite stuffed animal, loudly proclaiming she’s running away and going out the front door and marching down the driveway; no, Anja went all out.  She locked the door behind her when she told B she was changing and then opened the window, opened the screen, and made a break for it.

In case I haven’t mentioned it already?  SHE IS FIVE (5) YEARS OLD.  I dread what will happen in another 10.

Such stupid little things make me laugh so much.

My favorite quote since “faux-reality sitcom,” (although that’s more of a favorite word than an entire quote…but I digress)…this one is from CNN:

“Sophisticated metal detectors at the site initially detected what had been thought to be the largest pallasite meteorite ever discovered. But ground penetrating radar showed that object to be a steel cable.”

Sophisticated, indeed!

The Mouse That is No Longer. (by Walter Bean)

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

I am sad to announce that my mouse is no longer with me.

It was a tiny little thing.  Nice and cute.

I just attached it to my computer, turned it on and it would work with me all day.

When I left work last night it was here.  I come in this morning…  and it’s gone.

It must have grown legs and run away.

Where ever you are, ‘Mousie,’ I hope you’re going to be happy.  Make sure your new owner is good to you.  Know that I’m greatful for the time we had together.  I wish you all the best.  (((And it would be really nice if you would stop working for the donkey’s ass that stole you from me.)))
