From Bjössi

This is the email B sent about the halibut he caught on his Alaskan father’s day fishing trip, with a picture following the email.

I will be having A LOT of fish on the dinner table. It is a good thing that halibut is one of my favorite fish to eat:)

The length was 69 inches. So hanging up it was longer than me, I am a measly 5 foot 8.

Editor’s note: The halibut weighed 171.2lbs!

The most fun was when we where trying to get the bloody thing in to the rowboat, yep we were on a driftboat:) We rowed out about two miles in Cook Inlet, Alaska.

First, after I got it up to the side of the boat, the guide harpooned it with a bouy attached. That thing went totally berserk. I just hung to the rod like a virgin to her panties when the beast took the drag out like nothing (very tight drag). It was fun watching the bouy being dragged and taken under. It was like a scene from the movie Jaws. Then it was shooting time when I got it back to the boat after awhile. Shot right between the eyes and it got a little pissed again but nothing so bad. Got us a little wet with flapping and slapping.

Then it was over for her. Me and the guide got it in to the boat, it was a bloody hassle, while the two other guys went to the other side to keep the boat balanced. And there it was, ohh the beauty. And we hog tied it so it would not slap everything.

Maybe not the biggest one in Alaska but the biggest one the fishing cabin I was staying at has ever gotten. Big enough for me.

[...] from Iceland spoils you.  Between the char he’d catch in the ice-cold Þingvallavatn to the unbeliveably fresh halibut we ate for 6 months after he went to Alaska, I’m just picky.  And I’m OK with that.  You would be picky, [...]
